Marlins Water Polo finished the opening day placing second in their group. Positioned in probably the most difficult group of the Florida International, they played their first game against the Hungarian powerhouse, Szeged. Szeged drove their way through the Trinidad defense to finish the game convincingly at 33-2. Marlins goals were scored by Kristian Bocage and Delano Otero.
At 2:40 pm that same day, things were to be quite different. The seemingly confident FIU (Florida International University) entered the pool looking for the second place in the group. Marlins however in a display of courage after their earlier crushing defeat, outplayed the East coast athletes to an 8-3 win. Two goals each were scored by Kristian Bocage , Stephen Espinet and Delano Otero. The other goals were netted by Matthew Abraham and Shane Gillette. The tournament continues through the weekend with Marlins Water Polo Team facing Simi Valley of California and Florida Coast on Saturday. [Submitted by jchinlee] |
